A Decade of Shaping the LNG Industry: Highlights from LNGCON 2024

The 10th edition of the International LNG Congress, held in Milan, Italy on 11-12 March 2024, brought together 430+ industry leaders, experts, and innovators to explore the current and future landscape of LNG. 

With the support of Regional Partners Greenture (Snam Group), Techint E&C, Hanseatic Energy Hub, Edison SpA, and Green Partner Iveco, the Congress tackled key themes surrounding cost optimisation, technological advancements, and the role of LNG in the energy transition.

Industry Insights and Innovation

Featuring over 65 experts, the Congress programme fostered a dynamic exchange of knowledge through interactive discussions, creating a collaborative learning space.

At the Executive Opening Panel: LNG market dynamics towards energy transition c-level Industry leaders from TSG Italia, DNV, OMV Turkey, Liqvis GmbH, Greenture (Snam Group), Implico GmbH, GTT (GAZTRANSPORT ET TECHNIGAZ) and MSC Cruises delved into the role of LNG in the green energy transition, its competitiveness, and the challenges it faces.  

Alessio Torelli, Chairman & Managing Director at Greenture (Snam Group), addressed the strategic role of LNG in Snam's vision for the future. 

Session 1: LNG latest technologies towards cost-optimisation, brought together industry experts from HAPTICA S.r.l., Endress+Hauser Flowtec AG, Reganosa Servicios, Techint E&C, Exmar Marine and Akselos to explore innovative solutions that can enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and drive profitability. 

Sergio Aquenza, Commercial Technical Manager at Techint E&C, delved into the latest technologies for cost-optimised LNG liquefaction, showcasing a project aimed at propelling Argentina's energy export plans through sustainable plant modularisation.

A crucial discourse took place at Panel Discussion 1: Developing vehicles mobility. LNG as a Transportation Fuel. This panel convened industry experts from Dover Fueling Solutions, Cryostar SAS, Greenture (Snam Group), UESTCO Energy Systems, ElinOil, Iveco, Vlantana UAB and Gruber Logistics to delve into the transformative potential of LNG as a transportation fuel and address the challenges and opportunities associated with its widespread adoption.

Mattia Maritati, Head of Gas Business Development at Iveco, highlighted the advantages of LNG trucks and their crucial role in decarbonising the heavy-duty transport sector. 

Roundtable 2: Ongoing and released projects. Focus on European countries strategies convened industry leaders from HIMA Paul Hildebrandt GmbH, EemsEnergyTerminal, Gasunie, PT Perta Arun Gas, Olbia LNG, Klaipedos nafta and Hanseatic Energy Hub for a focused discussion on the current state and future prospects of LNG import infrastructure, new project developments, and the complex interplay between LNG and other energy sources in the European energy landscape.

Eric Bensaude, Commercial Director at Hanseatic Energy Hub, offered insights into ongoing and released projects within the context of European energy strategies.

Focus Exhibition and FutureFuel Exhibition Area

Beyond the Congress sessions, the dedicated Focus Exhibition and FutureFuel Exhibition Area served as a vibrant hub for innovation and collaboration. Recognising the growing importance of road transportation, a brand new zone showcased solutions and advancements related to LNG usage in this sector. Delegates had the opportunity to interact with these technologies firsthand, gaining valuable insights into their potential applications.

10th Anniversary Celebration and Gala Dinner

Marking a decade of shaping the LNG industry, LNGCON 2024 celebrated its 10th anniversary with a series of captivating activities. The highlight was undoubtedly the Gala Dinner held at the Gallery café Meravigli, a prestigious Liberty-style venue. Attendees enjoyed a gourmet meal, fine wines, and engaging entertainment, including a Grand Lottery, live music, a wine casino, and an LNG quiz activity. This memorable experience reinforced the spirit of community and collaboration that defines LNGCON.

Sustainability at the Core

This year, LNGCON 2024 partnered with charity: water to donate £10,000 towards providing clean water access for a lifetime to a Ugandan community of over 3,000 people. This initiative allowed attendees to contribute by purchasing donation bottles “Sip with purpose”, demonstrating the power of the LNG community to make a positive impact on the world.
